Parks and Recreation and Acquired Facilities 

Mission

The Parks and Recreation and Acquired Facilities Commission's purpose is to establish, develop, maintain and conduct Town parks, playgrounds, gymnasiums, public gardens and other such recreation places, as well as to plan, operate and provide for the maintenance and development of certain municipal, recreational and open space facilities acquired by purchase and/or donation from Scovill's Inc. and/or the Mad River Company; to preserve and protect said land and its facilities for the benefit of the townspeople, and to make said land available for public use and enjoyment; except that the Commission shall not have authority over any recreational facilities which have been designated by ordinance.

The Commission oversees the following areas within the Town of Wolcott:

  • Peterson Park
  • Sunrise Park
  • Town Green
  • Mattatuck Beach
  • Woodtick Recreation Area (closed 2025 season)
  • Woodtick Reservoir (dam maintenance)
  • Chestnut Hill Reservoir (dam maintenance)

The Commission is also responsible for:

  • Peterson Park Summer Program
  • After-School Programs (Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer)
  • Annual Easter Egg Hunt
  • Summer Concerts
  • Program support for various town programs and sports organizations
  • Allocating Wakelee and Frisbie school fields to sports organizations
