Wolcott’s Affordable Housing
The Planning and Zoning Commission is inviting comments from the public on its proposed 2023 Affordable Housing Plan. A copy of the Plan may be viewed here.
The Affordable Housing Plan is intended to outline recommended goals and strategies to facilitate the development of affordable housing and housing options in Wolcott over the next five years. The State considers housing to be affordable if total housing costs do not exceed 30% of household income for persons or families whose annual income does not exceed the lesser of the statewide or area median income (AMI). At present, in Wolcott a family of four making less than $90,880 per year or an individual making less than $76,811 per year is considered low-income and could qualify for affordable housing in Wolcott.
The state has established a goal of 10% Affordable Housing for each municipality. At present the Town of Wolcott has approximately 8% affordable housing. Each municipality in Connecticut is now required to prepare and adopt an affordable housing plan and update it every five years thereafter.
The Planning and Zoning Commission will be conducting a public hearing to solicit input on the proposed 2023 Affordable Housing Plan. The hearing is scheduled for 6:30PM on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Wolcott Town Hall.
Persons wishing to submit written comments on the proposed 2023 Affordable Housing Plan should submit them via e-mail to cpeabody@wolcottct.org or by mail to the Planning and Zoning Commission, 10 Kenea Ave., Wolcott, Ct 06716.
